West, Southwest & Fjords
Continuing our tour of the top places to stay in Iceland, we will be heading down to the West, Southwest and Fjords. Starting with the Southwest where the land offers a real mix between dramatic lava fields and some of the country’s most stunning beaches. On the West of the island, you will continue to see dramatic landscapes and include both the Snaefellsnes Peninsula which sits on the Western tip and is dominated by the Snaefellsjokull Volcano and the Western Fjords. Unique and diverse in landscapes, views, experiences, and vistas.
We will start with the Southwest with Hotel Husafell. This hotel is clean, modern in style and very comfortable. It offers a truly Icelandic plethora of activities which will not only suit the most adventurous of souls, but also the more laid-back guest who simply wants to benefit from the healing properties of the thermal baths. Hotel Husafell is very environmentally friendly with an emphasis on preserving the local habitat and making as little impact as possible.
The Skalakot Manor is a much-loved family run hotel, in the remote mountainous wilderness in Southern Iceland, they are a famous breeder of Icelandic horses and its fascinating to get an insight into this side of the Icelandic tradition. The Manor is decorated in an art deco style and is very informal, very relaxed, and overall, incredibly enchanting. Stays at Skalakot Manor are tranquil and full of adventure no matter what time of year you visit.
The Westfjords are possibly one of the most remote and beautiful areas of Iceland. The area is 8,600sq kilometres and is connected to Iceland by a narrow 7km wide Isthmus (a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger areas of land). On the edge of the Arctic Circle everything here is to the extreme but it offers a unique opportunity to witness mother nature at its most dramatic – something we strongly advise on doing. The Dynjandi Waterfall is commonly referred to as the jewel of the Westfjords and not only one of the most spectacular in the country but also one of the largest in the Westfjords.
Deplar Farm is one of our top stays within this stunning and dramatic area. It has long been known as one of Iceland’s most spectacular hotels. One of the highlights here is the Eleven Guide Team, a team of specialist adventure and expedition leaders with an unrivalled passion and knowledge for Iceland’s wilderness. The ethos revolves around providing you with ‘the best day ever’ based on your own desires, wishes and fitness levels (they tailor absolutely everything based on you!). There are no rain checks, no down days, just extraordinary experiences.
Deplar Farm’s homely décor is elegant and extremely luxurious, nothing here is too much trouble and every single thing you will do here from adventures to eating is the top of the range. Deplar Farm is one the ultimate ways to experience the Nordics.
